About me

I have a total of seven years of childcare experience, working with children ages 9 months - 12 years old. As the youngest child of four, I always wanted a younger sibling. Therefore, I started volunteering at a bilingual German daycare in Cary, North Carolina when I was 16. The daycare works with children ages 1 - 5 years old. Additionally, I started to babysit occasionally for families in the Raleigh area.

At 18, the daycare employed me part-time. My responsibilities included serving lunch and snacks, managing nap time, changing diapers, teaching German, doing arts & crafts, going for walks, and playing with the children.

The next year I moved to Madrid, Spain to work as an au pair/nanny for 10 months. Four out of the ten months, I worked for a family with a boy who was 7 years old and a girl who was 9 years old. My duties included getting the children ready in the morning, bringing the children to school and picking them up, making snacks, doing homework, exposing the children to English via educational lesson plans (which I created) and playing.

During the other six months, I took care of a pair of twins who were 2-3 years old. My tasks included picking the children up from daycare, making them snacks, playing with them, singing songs and teaching them basic English, taking them for walks, and getting them ready for bed. Occasionally, I helped the mother watch her 9 month old daughter.

Simultaneously, I also babysat and offered English lessons to a girl who was 6 years old, on Saturday mornings. After moving back to the Raleigh, North Carolina area from Spain, I continued to work part-time in the same bilingual, German daycare. A colleague of mine and I started providing children ages 6 and up the opportunity to improve German reading and writing skills during a Saturday school program twice a month.

Additionally, I very occasionally started to nanny part-time for families in the Raleigh area. Since moving to NYC, I nannied two children ages 1-3 for 45 hours a week. I provided continuous supervision and maintained safe learning and playing environments, managed daily activities and routines (including dressing, feeding, bathing, sleep schedules), and engaged children through fun activities (building, taking children to museums & child-related activities, going to the playground and playing games). I also babysit for multiple families throughout Manhattan & Brooklyn. The ages of the children I babysit range from 3 - 9 years.

I received my bachelor's degree in International Relations with a minor in Economics from North Carolina State University May 2017. Being multilingual as well as being exposed to different cultures growing up, I have easily adapted to living in New York City since moving here one and a half years ago. During this time in NYC I have worked as a full-time nanny for a wonderful family that will be returning to their home in Europe soon. I am always grateful to be able to share my love of languages, exploring, and creative projects with children.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Working with children has sparked my interest in the role primary education plays in the development of countries globally. I would like to find more ways to make equal access to education available to children around the world. In five years from now I see myself having finished a masters in Child Development and working with organizations that research or promote primary education for children.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I mostly enjoy creative activities such as arts and crafts as well as activities that involve the imagination such as role play and building forts. Building (forts, legos, or doing puzzles) especially stimulates both creativity and memory in a child’s brain. In order to release energy, I enjoy physical activities such as taking walks, going to the playground, playing soccer and playing catch. During “down time” I enjoy reading together, writing stories or drawing.
