About me

Hello! My name is Kayla, and I'm the youngest in a family of four. Every since I was a kid I loved the idea of babysitting. I loved babies and barbies and always had to have the latest American Girl doll or baby so I could take care of it. I think I got that trait from my mother, she instilled the love of children, and the traits of compassion and love within me from the moment I was born.

I started babysitting as soon as I was old enough, which for the family next door was around 12 years old. Over the course of the next few years, I babysat for several families, most of which usually had three to four children varying in ages from 2-12. Around the age of 15, I started sitting for a family of four girls. I got the girls involved in 4H and horseback riding. I gave them riding lessons on my horse at the time. The reason why I mention this is because of this, the family ended up buying their own horses, and now live on a farm in Wisconsin with many horses! They show all over the country. I find it so amazing the impact I had on an entire families life just my sharing my interests with them. It's an example of why I like being involved in the development of young people. You get to help them find their passions in life and expose them to new things!

I'm also very interested in hands-on activities, playing outside, and learning various new skills! I am into helping children feel their emotions, and know it's ok to cry, and have many different feelings about things. I'm all about non-violence and working through issues in a way that isn't punishing. I encourage children to be who they are and be kind.

When I was sixteen I became lifeguard and swim instructor certified. Through my teens and early 20s I taught group and private swim lessons ages 0-14. This taught me a lot about how to deal with any child's fear of water, work with large groups of children and how to be calm in situations of distress. I love swimming, and I love teaching others how to swim. It's super fun to watch them go from blowing bubbles to swimming laps!

Since then I've babysat on and off for small families in California and New York. I am a very joyful and outgoing woman who also has a passion for the arts. I feel strongly that children should be exposed to music, and anything creative at a young age to stimulate their minds and their imaginations. I currently work with a family of older children (12 and 16). I am a mentor to them, and also a big sister. I am here for them when they need me and take care of the home. This is different than the ages I've worked with in the past, but just as rewarding. I like working through their daily challenges with them, and helping them find their way in life.

I look forward to working with you and your children to create a safe and exciting environment for them to learn and grow in!
