About me

Originally from California, I am an active, creative, and fun Nanny / Educator / Social Worker in Training. I am currently in graduate school working towards my Masters in Clinical Social Work, part time. In about 2 years time I will be a therapist for Kids! For now though, nannying part time is a very fun job for me to have while in school. Also, when you are learning about the developing brain and child psychology in a textbook; it's fun to be around kids to see their fascinating personalities emerging in real time.

Prior to starting grad-school I was an actor! I studied musical theater in college, so I am always willing to sing, dance and play pretend. I have taught theater, dance, clowning, and music in public schools, for non-profits, and for regional theaters. I love to be silly and play games and feel that it's often the best way to learn.

I understand the special role of being welcomed into someone’s home. I understand how important it is for parents to be able to trust that their kids are in good hands and I think it's important to keep communication lines very open with parents. I feel consistency is essential so I will always default to you on what you think is best so that we can keep boundaries consistent. I geek out on lot of parenting content because of my social work career, but respect that every family has a different style and I am happy to adapt.

My goal as a nanny is always to be caring and supportive while striving to keep kids mentally and creatively active - rather than turning on the television. I love to take kids on adventures and want to help them learn and discover new things every day. I also want to encourage them to find the things that they are passionate about, and pursue them. Mostly though I just want them to see me as someone who they can confide in, who won't judge them, and who they can go to if they need something. I am extremely patient, warm, and silly.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

a therapist for children and families. I just finished my first residency for my degree which was in child welfare. I was at a foster care prevention agency. I met individually with parents and children, and we also met all together for family counseling. It was extremely challenging but I loved it. I also hope to be a Mom. I imagine in 5 years if all goes to plan I will have a kiddo of my own and will be working in a private practice in order to have the flexibility a parent requires.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to be outside with kids as much as possible, learning about nature, hiking, etc. I also love to take kids to museums and on day trips to places they make have never been. While at home, I love to do arts and crafts, puzzles, build sculptures out of clay, etc. I also think it's important to play pretend and get imaginative. We may create superhero personas and decide what special powers we would have to help save the world or choreograph dances. Another thing I love is to teach them about cultures around the world. One thing I did with a family for one year was making Fridays - travel day. We would pick a country for example Japans and look up pictures about Japan, talk about Japanese Culture, etc. For dinner we would eat Japanese food and then have a Japanese dessert. We would then listen to Japanese music or watch a Japanese kids move like Totoro. The kids loved it and it was a great treat for the end of the week if they had been good.
