About me
Being the second-oldest of five children, and the third-oldest amongst sixteen cousins, childcare is second nature to me. I actually question whether my family had me, just so I could be a live-in sitter. By the time I was 13, I was doing after-school care for my three younger brothers five days a week (ages 12, 8, and 6). I cooked, I cleaned, helped with homework, and most importantly made sure none of my brothers ended up in the emergency room. I am happy to say that my record is free of any hospital visits.
Fast forward 18 years, and what I have definitely learned about myself is that I love kids. How do I know that you ask? One of my fondest memories was doing children's theatre in college (I even wrote a play based on Aesop's fables), I now have 2 amazing children of my own (ages 2 and 6 weeks), and my other profession (due to the inconsistent nature of the entertainment industry), is babysitting.
I had two Manhattan families in my care from 2013-2015, with one of those families being a high profile client. One day I would be with the 4-year-old making breakfast (gluten free), pretending we were living in Jurrasic Park, taking care of naptime, and bringing the child to the theatre to sit for him there. The next day I would be at the 9-year-old's home, playing basketball, using football references to help with homework, and overseeing bathtime and bedtime duties. The greatest part of those jobs is that those kids became my pals. They are now old enough to have iPads and text, so we are able to stay in touch. Watching these two kids grow up is an absolute pleasure.
From 2012-2014 I taught Tennis in an after-school program, and through NY cares to kids ages 4-9. I would teach these kids the basics of tennis by playing small games I had created that used the skills taught to them.
My most recent sitting opportunities consist of several Brooklyn families. I just completed a temporary full-time position for a family with a 2 and 3-year-old. It set me up for success with coordinating my two children as they get older. I have done part-time sitting for a family with a 2-year-old, and now my daughter's best friend, in the Caroll Gardens area, and have done spot sitting for several other families (ages have ranged from 7 weeks old to 7 years old).
I am a sitter with a lot of patience and very high energy. I tune in to kid's interest and play with them at their level. I go to a playground with one child, and before I know it every kid in that playground is playing with us. I am not afraid to make a fool of myself to put a smile on a child's face. I am sure that quality will one day embarrass my 2 kids, but for now, it has served me well as both a father and a sitter.
The best view of the world is from that of a child. Children don't care about a bottom line, they don't care about deadlines, they don't care about your attire. Children care about imagination, honesty, and genuine openness to them and the world around them. What better work environment could you ask for? When asked why I sit, I respond that I am at my best when I am around children. I teach and learn at the same time, I inspire and am humbled at the same time, and most importantly I can be a kid and an adult all at the same time.

Sports (specifically tennis, baseball, and pool) Board Games My theatre training allows me to pass on fun and imaginative play Love to teach kids the joys of building/ creating (legos, blocks, train sets, clay etc) Love to share my appreciation for all kinds of music (showtunes, jazz, rock etc) No greater skill I can pass on than to show them they can laugh at themselves and it's ok.
