About me

Growing up as the youngest sibling in my family (who desperately hoped for a baby brother or sister), I spent most of my time taking care of the neighbors' children, putting on musicals for the kids on my block to perform in, and volunteering in children's theatre and dance classes at my childhood performing arts academy. Over the years, I began babysitting regularly for infants and toddlers, was offered a permanent teaching position for musical theatre classes with children ages 2-5 and 6-13, and (finally) realized that although another sibling wasn't in the cards, my passion for working with children could be a part of my career.

In the seven years that I've been in New York City, I've worked as a full-time, part-time and vacation sitter, primarily with toddlers and elementary school-aged children. I love creative, imaginative play and am great at engaging little ones to help them to feel happy and secure while their parents are away. One of my favorite things about childcare is how hands-on it is; I love helping kids to feel confident learning new skills, taking on challenges, and growing into the amazing humans that they are! In addition to my experience working as a sitter, I have taught theatre, music, and dance to children ages 2-16. I've also worked as a dance and yoga instructor for UGOT Active Kids, a company that works in NYC preschools and public schools to promote a lifelong love of physical activity.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University and enjoy using my skills as an actor to plan exciting activities that are tailored to kids' ages and abilities. For example, the last family that I worked with long-term had a 6-year-old girl who LOVED dancing (but was too embarrassed to do it in front of her friends!). Sometimes, at the end of a long day, she'd be restless, grumpy and unfocused when it came time to do homework. One of the things that we did to get back on track was to take a moment to have a dance party! We'd take turns teaching each other dance moves, then add them all together to make a fun dance that we could show her parents when they arrived home from work. It helped her to stay motivated and in a good mood throughout the evening so that when her parents came home, she was happy, finished with school work, and ready for some together-time.

Growing up with a sibling on the autism spectrum, I am comfortable adapting to a variety of environments and family dynamics and working with children with various learning and developmental disabilities. One of my greatest strengths as a sitter is my flexibility and ability to effectively communicate with family members; I believe that if we're all on the same page with family rules and expectations, children will be happier, more confident and comfortable adding a new sitter into their home. I'm happy to help with homework, healthy cooking, laundry, tidying up around the house and dog walking (I love dogs and have my own sweet pup at home, Scout!).

Nothing makes me happier than seeing a child learn, grow and succeed, and I'm excited to be a part of that journey!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Working with a wonderful family while working toward my Masters degree. One of my goals is to be able to teach in a collegiate setting; I love being able to pass on the skills that I've learned in theatre, music and dance to students.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love helping children to explore music (I can help with singing, basic piano, guitar and ukulele), as well as finding out more about whatever they are interested in! I believe that if there's a topic that a child is fascinated by, we should get outside and find out more about it. Recently, I worked with a family who has a four-year-old who loves rocks and gems. We spent a full afternoon in Central Park collecting rocks and figuring out what they might be and how old they are, then we used them to make a fun craft to save at home.
