About me

When I was growing up, I have always taken a nurturing role with my family friends' children, which slowly developed into real babysitting jobs. I love being able to watch children grow and develop, and just be surrounded youthful joy, something that you can forget as you become an adult. My role as a part-time babysitter flourished when I lived upstate near Rochester, and I knew it was something that I would want to continue when I decided to move to New York City for college.

I came to New York City to pursue my undergraduate degree in Psychology, with an end goal of being a child psychologist. This dream slowly transformed and grew as I learned more about the field, and I pushed myself to graduate a year early so I could continue to move straight into my masters. Throughout this time I was nannying for two families and immersed in developmental psychology readings. It was so interesting to watch developmental milestones being met out in front of my eyes when they took their first steps, started to talk, and began interacting with others on the playground.

This is when I really began to develop my interest in therapy, and recently graduated with my Masters in Mental Health Counseling. I began to focus on working with children and families in my learning experiences, and discovered a passion for working with children and families who struggle to maintain healthy, safe relationships with each other due to mental health problems, such as defiance disorders or autism. This development of myself through my education has created a strong sense of empathy towards others, something extremely important for childhood development. I believe that it is our role as adults to give children warm, safe environments to grow and learn, and it is a beautiful process to witness.

When I moved to New York, I began working with a family in Chelsea who has a 3-month old daughter. This job began as a date night position, and transformed into a 4 day a week, full-day position, with most weekends being date night jobs. The mother is a children's book author so she was in and out of the apartment a lot, but loved the help and time it gave her to do her work by having me there. I would take the child to the park, the zoo, the High Line, or on walks around Chelsea; she even took her first steps with me! We would spend a lot of time coloring, playing, singing and dancing, and running around. She is a very high energy child. I was also responsible for all meals when there, as well as nap time, bed time, and bath time if needed. I was with this family for approximately 15 months, until they moved to Texas for work. I still keep in close contact with them, and love seeing the child grow into a rambunctious toddler.

After my previous full-time position, I began working with a 3-month old boy full-time in Brooklyn. Both of the parents worked full days, so I was responsible for most meals, and occasionally did bedtime and bath time routines, and most daytime activities. We attended a weekly music class, and enjoyed going to the library to read. We spent a lot of time at the park; he loved to swing. We spent a lot of time working on rolling, sitting up, and then standing, making sure to foster an environment where he could meet his developmental needs. I also helped to transition him from milk to solid foods. Unfortunately this position ended when I started graduate school due to scheduling conflicts.

I currently work as an on-call sitter with a nanny agency providing part-time babysitting to families around the 5 boroughs. I work with children as young as 6 weeks, through teen years. My responsibilities vary depending on the family, but traditionally include meals or snacks, play time, bath time, and bedtime. This has given me experience with sick children, special needs children, as well as working with multiples (up to 4 children at a time).
