About me

I was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, before moving to New York City. I began baby-sitting because I just wanted to be like my cool older sister – but I quickly found how much I loved working with kids.

I've held regular baby-sitting positions for more than 12 years, including three summers as a full-time nanny. It kept me very busy -- but also armed me with invaluable childcare knowledge! I've watched children from ages six months to 14 years, including multiples, children with mental handicaps and children with severe food allergies.

My childcare experience extends beyond traditional baby-sitting and nanny positions. I spent one summer volunteering at a camp for children and adults with various disabilities. Additionally, I worked for 2.5 years as a writing consultant, tutoring students of all ages on grammar and providing other applicable support.

When it comes to baby-sitting or nannying, my strengths are my patience, my sense of humor and, of course, my amazing ability to build blanket forts! I'm outgoing with a bubbly personality, and that translates into the way I relate to kids. As a writer, I’m never short on creativity, be it creating a fun game or cracking kids up by reading a book aloud.

However, when it comes to discipline, I’m a believer in remaining firm but calm. I’ve found the most success in talking through a situation with a child, rather than just reacting to the issue. Above all, I believe mutual respect between the children and the caregiver is essential.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Still living in New York, writing in some capacity. If I could have a view of Central Park, that wouldn't hurt either.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Aside from building forts, I love any kind of board game and reading to kids (as well as encouraging them to read in general!).
