About me
I have worked with kids of all ages and I have experience working with children who have medical needs and special needs (my little sister had Down syndrome!). I graduated from Macalester College where I received a degree in Latin American Studies and a theater minor. Since then, I have taught in the Andalusian public school system, Quaker and Waldorf private schools, and several language schools. I have also designed and led workshops on acting and empowerment across China.
I have worked with children, ages 1 to 17, from almost every continent and have taught nearly every subject under the sun: as a cabin counselor or lifeguard for campers in Maine, literacy tutor for recent immigrants in Minnesota, playmate for orphans in Brazil, or history teacher for teenagers in Spain. I have changed diapers, taught little ones to read, potty trained, encouraged independence and exploration, and modeled emotional awareness and peaceful communication. I always bring energy, passion, and mindfulness to my work. I am actively committed to finding ways for each individual’s light to shine and expanding each child’s understanding of themselves, the world around them, and their role in it. I find that children lead the way in this work, and I consistently learn from their example. They teach us to be ourselves, to be brave and resilient, to live from a place of joy, and to trust in the goodness inherent in all.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
For me, reading is the foundation upon which both my imagination and my understanding of myself were built. To read with a child is to help them discover the power of their own mind and to trust in their flights of fancy as they whip up a whole world out of the words on the page. Reading, especially history and historical fiction, can also show children the widely varied perspectives on how we got to where we are now, and can aid them in grasping the reality of the world in which we live. Literacy is also a jumping-off point for creative play, be it performing the written word or crafting your own fantastic tales as you go along. Singing and dancing can be some of the most exuberant forms of self-expression, but these unfortunately tend to get lost as we grow up, so I do my darnedest to encourage them in the children around me. Quiet self-reflection has its place as well, so making time for solo play and independent endeavors is crucial in order for children to recharge and be fully present. Having studied Quaker philosophy, nonviolent communication, and mindfulness since 2013, I have found that, when given the right tools, children are surprisingly adept at these intentional ways of being in community. Thoughtful guidance can allow children to dial back anxieties and turn conflict into conversation in life-changing moments of empowerment and self-direction. For me, it's almost important to engage children in their own self-care and wellness. Yoga can be an effective centering exercise for children who need more physical engagement to come back to their best selves, and cooking can be a fun practical outlet that also teaches independence, responsibility and stewardship. Exploring the world around us through parks, museums, and long walks down city streets can also bring young ones more into contact with their communities, and show them the value of diverse lives lived beyond their own front doors. I also love to bring as much Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Mandarin into my time with children as they can handle!
