About me

Originally from Columbus Ohio, I've worked in childcare-related fields for around 10 years. First, it was watching the neighbor's girls while she ran to the store, then it evolved into teaching children's theatre and working at summer camp, tutoring kids in math and reading, and finally, back to babysitting.

I moved to NYC in 2012 to study theatre at NYU, and have since earned my BFA. During my time at NYU, I worked as an education intern at TADA! Youth Theater, and was later promoted to teaching artist. TADA! turned out to be the perfect environment for me, since it combined two things I'm extremely passionate about: theatre, and working with kids.

Since 2015, I've worked consistently as a babysitter, both after-school and for date nights. I was a M-F after-school sitter for 3 years for a 6 year-old girl in Boerum Hill, taking her to her activities and helping with homework. For the last several years, I've worked with two UES families most consistently -- one with two girls (7 and 10) and one with two boys (6 and 9) -- in addition to numerous date night and occasional jobs.

The best part about working with kids is the knowledge that you're making a positive impact on the child's life. Working at a summer camp, I get to form very tight bonds with the campers for a few weeks every year, and then they leave and we don't see each other for a whole year. It's only once the girls come back do you realize how much they've missed you (and vice versa)! These kids will tackle their counselors with hugs every time they catch sight of them. It's in those moments when I am able to comprehend how much of an impact I'm able to make to these kids simply by loving them and supporting them as best I can.

What I hope to instill in any child I work with is a sense of confidence and resilience. Kids are capable of so much more than most people give them credit for, and they are able to accomplish what they set their minds to, as long as they stick with it! I teach kids to continue trying despite any obstacle, whether it's tying your shoes or algebra or making new friends. I want the kids I care for to feel empowered to handle whatever life throws at them.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Working as a childcare provider in NYC. Something about New York has me completely enamored, and I never intend to leave. While I've done other jobs besides babysitting, there's nothing that I've felt quite fulfills me in the same way as being a nanny does. I liked to joke with my friends that I want to be a Professional Parent as my career -- then I realized that was basically just being a nanny, which I already did. :)

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I enjoy teaching theatre, music, and writing to kids that I work with -- I can read music and I love to sing, so I've helped several kids in the past with their piano or violin or similar music practices. Literally anything that's related to the performing arts is something that I can and do share with children.
