About me

Hey guys! My name is Liza!

Over the last decade I have worked with kids of all ages in various capacities. At the tender age of 12, I took the initiative to offer my babysitting services to neighbors in my building. For over a decade I have learned more from working with kids than I will ever know. In my junior year of high school, we were required to complete a certain amount of community service to move on to senior year. I chose to work at the 92nd Street YMCA where I participated in the Big Sibs program and the Homework Help program. I was finished with my community service within a month.

For seven summers, I've spent my time chasing around kids at a lovely theater day camp in Brooklyn. Collaborating with children in an environment that encourages individuality, ingenuity, and fun never gets old to me.

I have been babysitting for families in my building as long as I can remember. My next door neighbor has 4 kids under the age of 5 whom I adore. Most morning I go over there for about an hour to help in any way I can. I'm happy feeding the twin infants, playing with the toddler, making breakfast or taking the eldest to the bus stop.

This fall will be the beginning of my fourth year at 87 After-school, where I teach an arts and crafts class based off monster-related stories for Kindergarten-first graders, and a Harry Potter class where we explore the magical series through creating original art. During my tenure at the after-school, I have also taught a myriad of sports classes. I am no stranger to any park in NYC. If there's a surface you can kick a soccer ball off of, I've probably been.

My philosophy with working with kids is that safety comes first. I am CPR and First Aid certified. I always have snacks, Purell, and Bandaids in my purse. After safety, is encouragement. Over the course of my three years of working in a public school kindergarten integrated classroom, my proudest achievement is having a hand in the blossoming of a child who had a rocky start. I strive for maintaining the balance of socially/academically developing and having fun.
