About me

Hello!

My name is Gabrielle. I am a composer, singer, and educator based in Brooklyn. I studied music at Bard College in upstate New York and have been living in Brooklyn for the past eight years! I teach piano, songwriting, and vocal lessons to children of all ages. I've also babysat children ranging from 3 years to 14 years.

I've taught piano lessons to a 11 year old girl, Lily, for the past three years and she has come to feel like family. I love being there for the kids I babysit and teach, emotionally, hearing about everything at school, and all aspects of their life!

I also taught and babysat another 7 year old girl Lucy for three years, picked her up from school and camp, gave her a piano lesson, and made dinner. We had a really great time together. I had a wonderful time getting to know her and learning ways to encourage her creativity, while keeping her calm, and staying organized with plans and responsibilities. We would play lots of theatrical games together and write songs.

I find working with children really inspiring. I always learn something new. Teaching songwriting has been especially fun and rewarding–allowing kids to open up and cultivate their creativity. My favorite thing is when kids can work out issues, that perhaps they are struggling with, through music. I've had very young students that wrote songs about things that scared them, such as ghosts, and then they made peace with those fears though the music.

I think the arts are really important for kids development and I love encouraging free thinking and creativity! Staying active and healthy is really important to my lifestyle. I do dance and yoga whenever possible. I also really enjoy playing sports and different activities with kids I'm babysitting for in the park. I grew up on a farm in the Berkshires, Massachusetts so I love the outdoors and spent most of my childhood relying on imagination and outdoor games. I love to bring this quality of imaginative fun to the children I look after.
