About me

Hi! My name is Bligh and I am an actor/writer in New York, living on the Upper West Side. I really want a dog but my apartment unfortunately does not allow this!

I grew up in Washington DC with my two younger brothers. I swam year round and and played basketball but always always loved singing, dancing, making up stories, and listening to/watching musicals. I was pretty convinced that I was Julie Andrews in the Cinderella movie. I still think I might be...

I went to The Boston Conservatory for college and studied musical theater performance. After school, I spent an extra semester studying abroad in London where I went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art for a Shakespeare intensive. I spent a few extra months doing some traveling in the Netherlands, Germany, and France, some of my favorite memories through such a formidable time.

I moved to NYC in 2012 and lived with two friends from college in the east village and began babysitting and nannying as a side job while auditioning. I have performed all over the country and internationally, and have played everyone from Maria VonTrapp to an alien in a play adaptation of HG Wells' The Time Machine.

A family I have worked for who has since moved out of New York City once described me as "real life Mary Poppins" and I almost cried, it was one of the kindest compliments I've ever received! I feel that't the balance I strive for: a caretaker who you see is responsible and dedicated and disciplined when necessary but who also leads with kindness and excitement for the job.

As s a nanny in the city and an actor pursuing her dreams, I see no need to keep one side of myself hidden from the other! I have brought instruments to jobs (I kinda play the accordion...it's a long story), and made up musicals with the children, or a dance to a song. To me, they aren't mutually exclusive: my passion for childcare and for helping families and my passion for theatre and art and expression all work together! My Dad always told me my singing made him smile and would make other people smile, and let me tell you, kids are some of my best audiences:)

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In a Broadway show, working in tv/film with more regularity. I want to be married and working towards buying my first apartment in New York. I would love to be *planning/thinking* about when I want to start a family of my own. I want to have a really strong and healthy relationship with my personal health and my passions!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

My imagination, and how important I think using your imagination on a daily basis is! I love being outside and I was brought up very active, always outdoors (I think because my Mom needed breaks from the three of us:)) I think hammering home the importance of learning how to love reading is a strength of mine as well. I'm that person with a giant backpack always filled with a few books I'm reading at once. And, growing up as an older sister to brothers it was a tradition to read to them while I was fine tuning the skill. Those are memories I cherish and I bring that zeal with me to every family I work with.
