About me
Nannying comes naturally to me and it has always been evident to me that I was meant to work with children. I attended high school in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, where I started a theater class for children between the ages of 2-7. This is where my love for children stemmed. I am also the founder of an orphanage in Tanzania, and spending time with the kids fueled a deep desire to want to be around children. For as long as I can remember, nothing has made me smile the way I do when teaching and playing with children.
My experience covers the spectrum from babysitting to running children's classes, camps, and tutoring. I have babysat all through college, graduate school, and post-grad. It was such a great way to work a job that I thoroughly enjoyed. I have tutored 4th and 5th-grade classes at Hunter, as well as babysat between the ages of 3 weeks to 12 years of age.
I love being able to enrich the lives of children by establishing a healthy routine, wherein we can learn through play, exploration and traditional teaching methods to achieve developmental milestones. I have taken the skills I have learned over the last 10 years and implemented them as a professional babysitter over the last 7 years here in New York City.
I have been a competitive athlete for the last 8 years. I started off as a crossfitter, and then began Olympic lifting and power lifting. Being an athlete has really made me disciplined in a lot of areas of my life. Aside from sports, I love live music, dance, and I have recently been very much into meditating.
I strongly believe in molding children's minds through examples, and teaching rather than disciplining. I want to be able to creatively show a child right from wrong. I am not afraid to get dirty whenever working with children, whether it be outside in the park or at home with hand paint. I want children to be able to express themselves through whatever means they feel most comfortable, and I want to be able to enrich that.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Infants
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
- Multiples
In 5 years, I hope to be...
I would love to own my own gym - building the gap between cancer and fitness. I believe a strong body can fight illness. I would also have specific classes just for children :)
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love to guide children to express themselves, either through art, music, theater. I also believe it is an effective way to teach. I would play a lot of games with children, working on social emotions, mindfulness, friendship lessons and self-esteem building activities. I am a visual learner, and I would engage the kids in anything visual and creative.
