About me
I'm a poet and teaching artist with over five years experience working with kids. I believe that all children deserve a safe environment to learn and play in, and I enjoy being that safe space for kids of all ages. I spent three years working as a first grade teaching assistant., and over all building assistant. Part of that job included sitting with the kids who needed extra attention in order to thrive in their classrooms, filling in for the lead teacher, helping out in special needs classrooms, and providing one on one tutoring to kids who needed it. In addition to working as a T.A. I also babysat for families at the school, and for members of my own family. All in all I have experience working with kids anywhere from 3 months to 17 years old, all with differing needs and abilities. I am also CPR Certified and have infant care experience!
When I'm not babysitting or tutoring, I teach poetry to a wide range of students, attend poetry readings, and spend lots of time walking my dog. While I do enjoy sharing my love for literature with my adult students, I also try to foster a love of reading and imaginative play in the kids that care for as well.
I look forward to making new little and big friends, as we learn and play together!

In 5 years, I hope to be...
In five years I hope to have another book published. I also hope to be heading for a tenure track position at community or public college in the city. I also hope to have developed some sort of regular yoga or meditation practice, and be trained as a doula.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love love love teaching kids to read, and enjoy reading. But beyond that I enjoy helping kids to develop their curiosity, and imagination. We might do this by exploring the world around us, and looking at the leaves or the way the rain falls. We might also do this with different art projects or by making up stories and doing some imaginative play together. I also like to pay attention to what the child's favorite activities and skills are and really help them to expand and build off of those.
