About me

Working with children and young adults brings me great joy. I started babysitting when I was in middle school, and I haven't stopped working with children since. After graduating from Emerson College with an acting degree, I worked as a drama teaching artist and children's theatre performer in Boston for many years. My love for acting took me to Los Angeles, but I quickly realized I preferred spending time with the children I nannied over auditioning for film and television.

I decided to combine my passions for teaching children and theatre by becoming a drama teacher. Two years ago, I moved to NYC to establish residency before beginning coursework at The City College of New York. I will graduate with my M.S.Ed. in Educational Theatre in 2019.

While I pursue my master's degree, I want to work with children and young people as much as possible. I am inspired by their imaginations, playfulness, and honestly. I hope to empower them to find their voices and their paths of artistic expression. I am always evaluating my experiences as a student, teacher, and nanny to find better ways to adapt to the needs of the families and students that I serve. Collaboration, communication, confidence, compassion, and creativity are the five "Cs" that I strive to cultivate in my classroom and beyond.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Employed as a full-time drama teacher! I will be certified for K-12 and am open to working with any grade. In my classes, I hope to incorporate yoga and mindfulness instruction. I would also like to start my own family and may consider moving back home to Kentucky to be closer to my parents, sister, and two nieces.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am very passionate about giving children and young adults an outlet to explore their creativity. Due to my passion for educational theatre, I am inclined to facilitate creative drama and improvisation activities for the children I am babysitting. I love to incorporate art projects into playtime, but I also find that supervised, unstructured play is necessary for children to release energy, develop independence, collaborate with peers, and stimulate their imagination. I help older children and young adults find their creative outlet and nurture their artistry. With children, I love to bake and cook, explore nature, build forts, play games, have dance parties, ride bikes or scooters, learn sports, read books, perform plays, and make music. I also find that sitting, actively listening, and talking through problems or celebrating successes is important for developing strong bonds and communication skills. With older children and young adults, I aim to help them develop self-compassion, personal responsibility, conflict resolution skills, and healthy habits. I treat every child with respect and compassion. If they are upset, I try to provide a safe space for them to process their emotions and talk through their feelings. When helping students with homework, I try to vary my instruction to cater to their personal learning style.
