About me

As a babysitter, nanny, teacher, tutor, and camp counselor, I have worked with children of all ages in a variety of contexts. I have spent a great deal of time caring for children in all stages of development, and have been grateful and delighted to be welcomed into a multitude of families in this way. I have a background as a theatre teacher, and as a writing and Hebrew language tutor, so I believe in the importance of both education and imagination, and emphasize both as I create safe and organized environments for fun. My creative yet structured approach also lends itself well to my work in the theatre field, and as a tutor.

During my time as a camp counselor, I was first working with a group of second and third grade girls, and then became the Israeli culture specialist, creating and executing educational programming for campers of all ages. During an additional summer, I was a theatre counselor at Words, Action, Theatre, a theater camp in New Haven for middle school aged children. As a counselor at this camp, I helped to lead classes, mount the production, and ensure that each student felt encouraged, supported, and safe.

Once I began as a student at Wesleyan, I took on frequent babysitting jobs around my college campus, as well as a Hebrew tutoring job. In addition, I began to facilitate and coordinate a service program, whereby Wesleyan students would facilitate sessions about prejudice and stereotyping with fifth graders in the local community, to increase and foster cross-cultural dialogue and understanding. Through this program, I cultivated a strong sense of how to facilitate sometimes difficult conversations with children, and grew tremendously as an educator.

In my varied experiences working with children, I have cooked dinners, helped with homework, supervised at play groups, gone on walks, organized arts and crafts activities, taught games, read books, sang songs, and more. As a camp counselor both at a standard day camp, and also at theatre specific camps, I bring energy and enthusiasm to my work with children, and have a real knack for coming up with educational games and activities. I pride myself on my patience and my conscientious nature, and bring a sense of awareness and positivity to everything that I do.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Five years from now, I see myself having a fulfilling career as a theatre director, while also continuing to pursue my passion for childcare, whether that means working with wonderful families, continuing to pursue children’s arts education and theatre projects with children, or even being a mom.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

As a theatre teacher and counselor, I most love creating imaginative worlds with children. I often encourage the children I am babysitting to play imagination games, or teach them other theater activities to encourage creativity. In addition to these theatre games, I grew up with a mother who was (and still is) an educator for children. Thanks to her, I know countless songs that I love to teach and share with children. Music has been a huge part of my own upbringing, so I like to share that as well. I also have spent time as a camp counselor, so I know numerous clean and fun arts and crafts activities to lead. Finally, having spent a great deal of time tutoring, I know that for children of age I would also be able to help with homework, and work with them on new ideas they are learning in school. For children not of age to have homework, I have always delighted in reading books to little ones.
