About me
All my cousins are way older than me. I'm the youngest grandchild, which of course means, that I was the designated babysitter. It was kind of a perfect because not only did my cousin get free childcare and a break from the stressful times of parenting but I also got to feel like a mature adult, a thirteen year old mature adult, taking my kids on walks and burping them. I worked so hard on perfecting my swaddle and I knew how to unfreeze breast milk, it just made me feel so cool. Now all these babies are teenagers and it's truly crazy to me, how did this happen so fast!
When I was 15 I began taking care of children for extra money, which means I have 10+ years experience in babysitting and nannying. I have taken care of children of all ages. What I have learned from my many years of babysitting is that balance is very useful when I'm working. Balance is very important to me in my life and it's a cornerstone of how I make decisions while care taking. Some examples of balance I use are balancing structure with fun, routines with spontaneity and creating a sense of independence while also having a strong sense of family and community.
I truly enjoy teaching helping facilitate tiny epiphanies with the kids I'm watching. It's my favorite part of taking care of children! Whether it's how to turn around without falling down, or making sure the rules to the games made up are equal so everyone can win. One time I was taking care of a 2 kids, and they were taking turns racing up and down their apartment on scooters. Each round I would time them and we'd write down what time they got. They weren't really into drinking water so I did an experiment with them. They raced without drinking water first and then drank water and raced again. They found that their time was much shorter when they drank water. From then on every time we did any physical activity, they would first fill up water bottles and have them near to make sure they were hydrated. This is the kind of stuff that fills my heart with joy.
When I'm not taking care of children, I am performing long form improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. I also perform with the Story Pirates at Elementary School in the Tristate Area. The Story Pirates perform stories that kids have written. My favorite game is Dungeons and Dragons. Basically, I am very good at playing pretend, and I'd love to play pretend with your kids!
