About me

I grew up outside of Washington DC in suburban Maryland, and after living outside of Philadelphia for college, I moved to NYC where I've been living for 5 years. As an older sister and oldest cousin, I've been caring for children my entire life. Throughout high school and college I babysat for neighbors' children and would watch them for extended periods of time during the summer. Since I've been in NYC, I babysit regularly for kids 3-11 and have also been a nanny for a two-child family living in Park Slope.

I also have a ton of experience with children in professional and more structures settings. I'm a Gold Award Girl Scout which required me to accrue a bunch of volunteer hours with younger scouts and develop leadership skills (plus hours of CPR training, of course.) In college I interned and later volunteered at 826DC, a nonprofit dedicated to encouraging children k-12 to express themselves through creative and expository writing. I tutored and helped run field trips for the organization. Most recently I worked as an after school counselor at the 14th St Y and currently I'm a mentor at Girls Write Now.

I love how great kids are at thinking outside the box. I know that sounds cliche, (which maybe goes to prove my point that we can lose our originality as we get older) but I love encouraging kids' creativity and sense of humor. A lot of what I do both outside of childcare and with childcare is figuring out ways to incorporate how we play into how we work. I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive! That being said, I know how to enforce a strict bedtime.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I'd love to be writing and directing movies. And ideally I'd like to be writing and directing movies on a very warm beach somewhere.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I have a theater and improv background, so I have a bunch of games and activities I've learned over the years that I do with kids. I also have a ton of experience teaching kids writing, so I love working with kids of all ages on writing poems, making zines, drawing comics, or whatever sort of writing they find exciting.
