About me

From a young age, I have always been interested in working with children but (until recently) had never really found my niche. In college, I studied Human Development and Family Relations with a concentration in adolescence and, although the focus was on adolescence I was exposed, through coursework and through experience, to different developmental stages throughout the entire lifespan. I worked with children from Pre-K up through High School in an educational setting and still could not find an area in the public school system that really felt like a good fit for me.

About a year and a half ago I started my first Nanny Job, and the process has been so rewarding. Working with children as a nanny is different than working with children in a school. I find it so rewarding because you spend so much time with the child and really get the opportunity to not only watch them grow, but to help them grow, whether it be physically, emotionally or behaviorally.

In addition to my most recent experiences working in a private home, I also have over 5 years of experience working with children from ages 4- 15 in an educational setting. I have worked with children with a wide array of special needs, including physical, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and Autism Spectrum Disorders, to complete their school work, to learn life skills that will help them to succeed outside of school, and to engage in appropriate and acceptable social interactions. Because of these experiences, I have learned to become very flexible and creative when it comes to educational techniques to help children learn and succeed – special needs or no, every child is different and may require a special plan in place to help him or her learn school subjects such as English or math, or social norms such as appropriate and inappropriate behaviors.

I was also able to run my own counseling groups for children whose parents have been divorced, for a child who suffered from anxiety, for a child who was struggling with questions regarding sexuality and gender identity disorders, and for children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder to learn social skills and socially appropriate behaviors.

I think one of the things that makes me such a good Nanny is my educational background – I have the skills, knowledge and ability to create developmentally appropriate activities that help stimulate and foster a child’s growth and development in a fun and playful manner. My experience working as a nanny and providing direct care for a child, coupled with my educational background would make me the perfect fit for a family who is looking for someone to provide both excellent daily care for their children while incorporating unique learning opportunities and activities.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Although I definitely won't be asked to join a Broadway show anytime soon, some of my favorite things to teach children are new songs and dances! We sing and dance to learn about things like holidays or seasons, we sing and dance to remember table manners or to go potty, and sometimes we just sing and dance because it is fun to sing and dance! I also love to read to children and to help instill a love of books in them. I like to expose them to numbers and letters and to see how excited they are when they start to learn and remember those numbers and letters. I like to teach children basic skills they will need to succeed, whether they be personal hygiene skills (potty training, wiping, washing hands and body) or social and behavioral skills such as sharing and the importance of having manners and being polite. I love to watch children as they use these skills coupled with their increasing desire to be 'independent' as they explore the world around them.
