About me

Children have been a huge part of my life since I was a child myself. My first paying job, at age 11, was babysitting for neighbors and family friends and I've been caring for children in some capacity ever since. I have a special connection with children. I love their energy, curiosity, quest for information and unapologetic way of living. I have always been able to relate to them and it brings me great joy to watch a child grow and learn. I can't necessarily explain what it is that children feel about my energy...probably because I'm a child-at-heart...but whatever it is, it's earned me the nickname "Amy Poppins"! I feel totally comfortable and at ease around kids and I think their innate and unfettered intuition allows them to feel trust and security with me. I respect children and, in turn, I think they respect me. I believe in fostering an environment of freedom, love for oneself/others and individuality for a child. Allowing them to be children and guiding them to be their best selves while, of course, instilling the basic tenants of what it means to be a good human in the world. I think rearing a child is a very serious thing. We are the ones they look up to and model their behavior after and I strive to always be aware of myself and how I influence young people. I believe being around children has helped me to grow and learn things about myself. To me, children are an inspiration and I feel lucky to get to spend my time around them.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I'm currently working towards getting a degree in nursing and will be in school at least another 2.5 years. Once that is accomplished, I plan to find a job that incorporates my love of children with my new career choice. The options are vast in the nursing field and I am totally open to any opportunity that presents itself. I also have a list of far away places I would love to travel to and experience but that is totally dependent upon where my life takes me!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am an avid reader of books and am always encouraging children to read as well as spending loads of time reading to them. I think it is so important to be able to immerse yourself in the world of books for entertainment as well as education. Reading also instills a sense of independence. I love exploring outside and discovering things in nature as well as whatever the surroundings may have to offer. NYC is an ideal place to be with a child...so much diversity, culture, parks, people and pulse that make it easy to have new, eye-opening experiences on a daily basis. I love to listen to music and dance which lends itself to allowing a child to open up in ways that are purely organic and connected to their inner selves. I feel it's super important to be tuned in to oneself as well as the world around us so that we can grow and learn from anything and everything. I love to go to the theatre and have seen the impact that can have on a child in terms of exposure to another facet of life using creative play, character and costuming as another way of self-expression. I also try to gauge what a child already takes an interest in and start a conversation about whatever that may be.
